Witchazel ✹ The Lumbers Quilt
Illustration for Fiction ✹ 2024
Created as part of a collaboration with indie author T.C. Roberts-Finn, The Lumberers’ Quilt is a patchwork-style illustration inspired by one of my favourite stories from his self-published book. Released in celebration of World Book Day, this piece holds a special place in my heart — both personally and creatively.
I wasn’t allowed to read the full manuscript until it was ready for the public, but when I finally did (while recovering from illness), I discovered that the story I’d been asked to illustrate was one of my favourites. Rich with symbolism and subtle magic, it immediately conjured the image of a moth-eaten quilt, folded in the corner of a cabin — something quiet and full of memory.
The final illustration is a patchwork of motifs woven from the world of the book: soft, weathered, and full of story. It reflects my love for folk art and narrative-driven design, and it’s become one of my most personally meaningful prints.
