At the heart of England, where six counties quietly meet, lies a region of rare charm and understated beauty. For this commission, I was invited to create an aesthetic, antique-inspired line map capturing the unique essence of The Notswolds ; a gently reimagined region encompassing parts of Rutland, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Huntingdonshire, and Nottinghamshire. Where I live, where I studied, where my roots lay.
The brief called for simplicity and elegance, with a nod to vintage cartography. The map features key towns and landmarks including Oakham, Uppingham, Stamford, Market Harborough, Oundle, and the iconic Rutland Water. All rendered with careful line work and a timeless visual tone.
Rooted in the themes of quality, character, and quiet continuity, this piece was designed to reflect a sense of place: unhurried, unspoilt, and deeply connected to land and community. Positioned just an hour from London, the Notswolds represents a hidden gem — and this map aims to capture both its geography and its spirit.
